Checking In: The Cavalier Virginia Beach

Cavalier Hotel Virginia Beach

The Cavalier in Virginia Beach is not only rich in history dating back to the 1920’s but recently underwent a massive renovation leaving the property like new and with all the luxury trimmings. It is thought that The Cavalier put Virginia Beach on the map and that it is “the finest hotel in America” as quoted by then J. Leslie Kincaid – President of the American Hotels Corporation. He claimed to have seen them all and gave this praising accolade to The Cavalier. After visiting The Cavalier, I can assure you that it is a fine hotel with incredible amenities, sensational food, its own distillery, and the beach club that steals the show.

The Hotel:

Offering 91 rooms and suites to choose from, 4 dining and beverage locations, an onsite distillery, private beach club with pool and beach access, gym, indoor luxurious pool, and Seahill Spa for guests to enjoy. During my 3 night stay I never left the property because The Cavalier has everything you need for the perfect vacation!

From the second you arrive, the literal red carpet is already rolled out for you and staff are ready to welcome you in. The lobby is well decorated and the check-in area is plush with big red chairs.

The hotel design elements offer a cozy yet chic vibe and you will see throughout there is a lot of rattan furniture and plush seating accompanied by art.

I found the hotel was not overwhelming in size but just big enough to feel like you had privacy and a lot of space to freely move about. The elevators to all the floors is right past the lobby and it is centered such that when you get off of it you don’t have to go far to get to your room or anywhere throughout the hotel.

The Rooms:

I am obsessed with the decor of the room I stayed in! I checked into a Queen Room with a slight view of the Ocean and it was not only spacious, crisp white in decor with pops of color but also offered local touches. One of the things I really appreciated about the room was the art selection and the bar tray, with a for purchase bottle of bourbon from the distillery on the bottom floor of the hotel.

The beds were extremely comfy and each night turn down service delivered chocolates, laid out the comfy robes and slippers, and made sure the room was tidy.

Dining:

I cannot rave enough about the food and to give you a backstory on how I usually travel – I don’t tend to eat ALL my meals in the hotel. I go out and explore the city and eat where locals eat. However, after my first meal at Becca for dinner, I WAS SOLD. I knew at that moment I did not need to leave the hotel to eat anywhere else.

I did dine at all the restaurants on property and at The Beach Club. I did room service for breakfast one morning, Becca for Breakfast, 2 dinners at Becca, 1 dinner at The Hunt Room, 2 lunches at The Beach Club – and guess what? ALL the food was sensational .. down to oatmeal. I can’t stress enough how good the food is – I am still talking about it to friends a couple weeks later. If you can’t stay at the hotel or live in the area, I highly recommend eating at any of the restaurants on property,

The menu at Becca changes. In fact, it changes so quickly that a chilled melon soup I had eaten and fell so in love with was not on the menu the next night. It was not a big deal as I just tasted other food but the pictures I show you of the food I had may not be available when you go, except for the cheese and onion popovers.

Don’t forget to grab a drink from The Raleigh Room and enjoy the interior or take it outside to the beautiful grounds.

The Oceanfront Beach Club:

Easily my favorite part about the hotel is The Oceanfront Beach Club. I spent two days here relaxing!! Going from chair to pool to beach. I don’t think I have ever seen a nicer more luxurious private beach club in my travels and the staff is so nice.

There is an indoor portion of The Beach Club that is for members only – but I got a picture to show you!

You can get food and drinks at the Beach Club while you are there and I highly recommend the tacos and the chicken wrap!

Tarnished Truth – Onsite Distillery

the first and only distillery within a hotel is Tarnished Truth, located on the bottom floor of The Cavalier Hotel. I highly recommend booking the 1 hour tour and tasting where you will learn about how the distillery got its name, the history, and of course tastings! During my tasting we did a moonshine and bourbons, however they are about to release a gin and also make vodka.
