The first thing I did in my trip research was look for what I thought were the best restaurants in Morgantown West Virginia. I did not actually google that phrase though. I sifted the internet through websites, reviews, forums, and menus for anything I could find that would lead me to a restaurant that I thought could be a contender for “Best.” After all my research and planning, I hit the road to experience Morgantown, and boy did the food win me over. From breakfast, brunch, lunch, snacks, dinner, and a winning cocktail – I covered all the bases!
Best Restaurants in Morgantown West Virginia for Breakfast and Brunch
Personally, I think breakfast is my favorite meal. Why? Because I can eat sweets and no one flinches an eye! Lucky for me (and hopefully you) one of the best restaurants in Morgantown West Virginia is a donut shop called Peace, Love and Little Donuts. The concept is that you get these mini donuts (maybe one quarter to half the size smaller than a standard size regular donut), they are warm and you pick your toppings. The shop has already created a ton of varieties like s’mores, Boston cream, fruity pebbles, salted pretzel, and a huge assortment of other tasty flavors. I am not too particular about my donuts, so we ordered a variety and shared them. I loved every single one!

Table 9
Located along the Monongahela River, Table 9 is a must for brunch on the weekend. Coining craft food in Morgantown, Chef/Owner Mark Tasker focuses on American dishes, often small plates. During brunch, our plates were not small. In fact, they were large and delicious! Something that stood out during the order was that the eggs Benedict come with sous vide eggs versus poached. While that still taste the same, I had never seen that before and was told it saves time when the restaurant is busy. I love that creativity to use time wisely.

We went with the eggs Benedict and the brunch special, which was a ricotta toast that had spices, tomato and eggs on top, with a drizzle of balsamic! As you can see from the photos, this is no ordinary brunch spot – if you are looking for one of the Best Restaurants in Morgantown West Virginia that is going to challenge your taste buds and make you see food differently, this is your spot.

Best Restaurants in Morgantown West Virginia for Lunch
Terra Cafe
Overwhelmingly when researching and talking to locals, Terra Cafe came up as one of the best Restaurants in Morgantown West Virginia for everything! There is no way that the internet and all the locals were in on a scam together – so I had to go for myself. Guess what? they were pretty spot on. The food was incredible.
I went with the honey apple pulled pork sandwich – which my only regret now is not having two haha. I also ordered a delicious snack – it was a heath mousse that was light and airy and had a fantastic crust.
Bourbon Prime
We ate at Bourbon Prime the night before so we knew going in that lunch would be spectacular. We kept it simple with a margherita pizza and a gruyere grilled cheese. I think the fact that the griled cheese came with my favorite cheese AND bacon on it was a strong selling point.

Best Restaurants in Morgantown West Virginia for Dinner
Bourbon Prime
Hands down the most creative and delicious meal I had while visiting. I do believe Bourbon Prime is among the best Restaurants in Morgantown West Virginia and if you can only have ONE dinner, let it be here. Bourbon Prime is located inside the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place. With options to dine inside or out, your dining experience is going to be grand, and I don’t mean the bill.
Pro Tip: the Morgantown Tourism Board has a list of Mountaineer Deals coupons you can redeem at participating restaurants (subject to change), Bourbon Prime included, and for this specific restaurant, we were able to get buy one entree get one free and FREE valet parking. The only caveat is that you need to print the coupon. So make sure to bring it for any of the three meals that Bourbon Prime serves during because it works for them all.
For dinner we splurged and ordered all the food because we could not decide. Fair warning, the restaurant brings out warm cornbread and silky smooth butter after you order.
For a starter we went with the Spring Greens salad that had goat cheese, hazelnuts, strawberries, and balsamic. This is one of my favorites for summer because it is just fresh and the flavors go well.
For a cocktail, make sure and try “Almost Heaven” if you are an old fashioned lover. It comes out perfectly smoked and poured in front of you.
For entrees we split the Wild Mushroom Strudel, Filet Mignon with Fries and Cauliflower Gratin. If I had to pick only one dish from the entire trip to label the very best, it would be the wild mushroom strudel, hands down. I have never had anything so delicious in a puff pastry and I just found the presentation paired with the flavor very delightful.

Last, but certainly not least, we ordered the Mint Chocolate Panna Cotta. I have been on a panna cotta kick lately and this one was refreshingly delicious.
Snacks not to miss in Morgantown
There are two things I ate while in town that stuck out for me as really good. The pepperoni roll is sold in many places and I ate a lot of them, not so shamelessly, but I could not narrow down the absolute best restaurants in Morgantown West Virginia to carry them. I ate them almost everywhere, including gas stations, and they are a MUST! I did some research and these snacks are special to West Virginia (the official state food) and they are a sweet roll with pepperoni baked inside. I did see other combinations that included cheese and/or spicy versions. It is up to you!
Pepperoni Roll
I also LOVED the deliciously warm cookies from Insomnia Cookies. We literally laid in bed with milk and ate these bad boys. No regrets!
