Grand Hotel Mackinac Island: The Rooms:

The hotel offers 390 rooms with options and no two rooms are the same. Decked out in colorful schemes with a Victorian theme, you will be happy with any room you choose. During my stay I roomed in a Category III room with a balcony overlooking the lake.

Greeted with bright colors and magnificent views, my stay was everything I imagined it to be and more. Comfortable bed, thermostat, fully stocked minibar, flat screen TV, and geranium scented toiletries!

Fun fact: Geraniums grow on the front porch of The Grand Hotel Mackinac Island and you can find them stylishly throughout the hotel, like on the design of the carpet in the parlor.

Grand Hotel Mackinac Island: The Deck:

The largest in the world, at a length of 660 feet. There’s room for plenty of people to enjoy the views overlooking the lawn, pool and Lake Huron. At one end of the deck you will find a life size chess board and an ice cream shop. This is a great place to kick back and relax. Grab a book or a glass of wine. This deck is also the perfect spot to see the sunset on the island.

Dinner:
After 6:30pm there is a strict dress code in the hotel. Evening attire is the code, and men should wear coats and ties and women should wear a dress, skirt with a blouse or a pant suit. The hotel has varying menus and you can find out on the daily board down by reception which color the menu is for the day. During my stay it was yellow – and it was delicious.

Pecan Ball

My favorite part of dinner was dessert. I have the biggest sweet tooth in the world, so naturally I am drawn to dessert. If you go, order the pecan ball – delicious ice cream rolled in pecans with a fudge underneath. SO GOOD!
Overall I had a very lovely stay at The Grand Hotel Mackinac Island. Everything was perfect.

Always always wanted to go to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Been a dream since I saw ‘Somewhere in Time’ way back in the 80s. So jealous you’ve been but it looks fabulous.

One of my definite Top Five movies, although I seem to have about 17 in my top 5 at the moment. Great film.

I would seriously love to go to that Jana. Looks amazing but I’m sure the cost would also be amazing.

Wow!!! I would go there just for the hotel. It sounds almost too good to be true. I don’t think there is anyplace like it. Where else do you get a horse carriage ride and 5 course dinner!

Wow opened in 1886?! That is awesome!!! This place looks amazing and I’m obsessed with all the green! The food looks phenomenal too!

Looks like it’s straight out of a Victorian era fantasy. To get picked up by horse and carriage and escorted to the hotel sounds like a rare treat indeed! Beautiful setting and building too – overall, a great place to stay 🙂

I’m from Michigan and have seen the Grand Hotel a number of times! It certainly is gorgeous, but I have never made it inside. Thanks for the photographic insight 🙂

One of my favorite places! However it has a “porch” not a “deck.”

  11. September 25, 2016 / 6:57 am

The view is magnificent and the food looks so delicious! Nice touch with the horse carriage that you can take after the ferry, feels like you went back in time. So curious that all the rooms are different would love to explore it!

Ummm, grand seems to be an understatement. I didn’t realize the sheer size until I saw the picture of the deck! Holy shit haha, it was huge!!! I love that even though it’s a high class hotel, it still has that quirky decor that doesn’t make it feel so stuffy. Would love to visit! That view is amazing too.

The hotel is outstanding. I think the customer service is probably the best part of the visit in conjunction with all the colorful decor.

  13. September 25, 2016 / 11:00 pm

This looks fabulous. Love the history of the hotel but everything you’ve mentioned looks wonderful. The food would be of interest to me especially. Love the views and also the decks. Many a cocktail could be consumed there.
